During a recent audience at the Vatican, Pope Francis was presented a new white zucchetto by an American couple. They then asked if he could try it on. While Cardinal Donald Wuerl was thanking them and saying 'no he shouldn't', the Pope did something remarkable...he showed complete detachment by removing his, trying on the new one, and then giving the couple his zucchetto! What a wonderful example for us all! Complete detachment to things of this world and willingness to always give.
If you watch the film clip you will see something even more amazing - God's grace being poured out on Pope Francis and also passing to the couple who gave the gift. What a wonderful way to experience God's joy and pass it on to others. Pope Francis' example is truly Christ before us - since no one ever experiences the Lord Jesus Christ and remains the same.
I pray that we may likewise demonstrate the same detachment and be the light of Christ to others.
